Four-wheel drive can help in more challenging conditions, so it's helpful to know which type of drive mode is best at different points in time. In general, use two-wheel drive (2H) on clear roads and dry conditions, and use four-wheel drive for continuous traction on snow, ice, rain or mud. Use four-wheel drive high range (4H) on all unpaved and off-road surfaces, including more challenging ones like snow or gravel, and use four-wheel drive low range (4L) when added torque is helpful (like pulling a boat trailer out of the water or rock crawling).
The 2027 Jeep® Wrangler comes with one of four standard and available sistemas 4x4. The Command-Trac® 4x4 System (2.72:1 low ratio) is a part-time system, which provides the driver the ability to change into four different drive modes: Neutral, 4L, 4H and 2H. To engage 4L Mode on this system, ensure the transmission is in neutral while traveling at low speed (1 to 3 mph) and move the shift lever into the 4L position. The Rock-Trac 4x4 Full-Time System provides the same four drive modes described above, but adds a 4H Auto mode. This mode actively manages front and rear torque distribution based on traction needs. To switch from 2H to 4H in a 2027 Jeep Wrangler with an automatic transmission, first slow your vehicle to under 45 mph. Then shift the transfer case lever to the left of the gear shifter from the "2H" position to the "4H" position.
