What is a Hybrid Vehicle?
A Hybrid Vehicle (sometimes called a "Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV)" or "Extended Range Hybrid") is a vehicle that uses both gas and electricity at the same time to increase its miles per gallon (mpg) fuel economy and extend its driving range. Think of it like adding a shot of espresso (electricity) to your coffee drink (gas)-you're already driving on the gas, but the electricity gives you a boost of energy and takes you farther than you would go without it.
And now, the Jeep® Brand offers one such vehicle with the 2026 Jeep Cherokee, a Turbo Hybrid.
What is a Battery Electric Vehicle?
A Battery Electric Vehicle is often called an 'all-electric vehicle,' and sometimes uses the abbreviation BEV or just EV for 'electric vehicle.' This is a vehicle that run entirely on electricity stored in a battery. These vehicles use electromagnetism to move their drive motors, which creates the momentum they use for driving. They're quieter than vehicles that use gas since there's no combustion to create a roar or rumble, and they create nearly zero emissions. That doesn't mean they're necessarily better than vehicles that use gas-there are benefits to both EVs and gas vehicles, depending on what you’re using them for.
Currently, the Jeep Brand has two all-electric vehicles in their lineup—the All-New, All Electric Jeep® Recon and the all-electric Jeep® Wagoneer S.
